Dining In

The Sunset Market is a small grocery store located in the Paradise Plaza Shopping Center. Located on Paseo de los Cocoteros just 1.5 miles south of the condo (out the gate and to the right), this little store has limited options, but is great for grabbing a few things you might need. It has a decent supply of groceries, but is more of an extra large convenience store for beach vacationers, and while it is handy, we wouldn't recommend it for a real grocery shopping trip. Of course at just 1.5 miles away, it is walkable...we've walked that path many times.

At just an 8-minute cab ride back up to the main highway 200, the Mexican grocery store chain, Chedraui is the closest to our condo. This chain is common all over Mexico, and we've visited them everywhere from Isla Mujeres near Cancun to Cabo to elsewhere around Vallarta. While its not our favorite grocery store in the area, it will likely have everything you need, and will get you back to your vacation time quickly. Check out the website at Chedraui. When you leave there will be plenty of taxi's outside waiting to take you back to the condo.

What can we say that you don't already know about this one...it's a Super Walmart with a full grocery store inside. You'll see a few different things in a Mexican Walmart that we don't normally find back in Texas...but that's true for all other the grocery stores as well. This Walmart is actually located inside a shopping mall called Lago Real. The website for Walmart in Mexico is Walmart. To choose the correct location on the website use the zip code 63732 and choose....Av. Tepic No. 430, Colonia Valle Dorado, Puerto Vallarta, Nayarit 63732. Like everywhere else, when you leave there will be plenty of taxi's outside waiting to take you back to the condo.

Directly across the street from Walmart and the Lago Real Shopping Mall is the newest grocery store in the area...which opened near the end of 2022. It is Casa Ley, another chain grocery store in Mexico. We made our first and only visit to this one in January of 2023. To us it was very much like the Chedraui...not our favorite, but it has everything you need and will get you back to vacationing quickly.

A slightly longer cab ride at 13 minutes, we get to our favorite Mexican grocery store chain. La Comer has the feel of the typical higher end grocery store that we have come to expect back in the US. It still offers things that you won't find in a typical store back in the US, but it is all presented in a similar way. Some of the prices at La Comer might be a smidge higher than other places, but certainly not all of them...definitely not enough to make a noticeable difference in your total bill. Again, when you leave there will be plenty of taxi's outside waiting to take you back to the condo.

Next door to La Comer, we get to our 2nd favorite Mexican grocery store chain, Mega Soriana. Until the La Comer was built next door somewhere around mid-2019 "The Mega" was our go to place. It too presents more like what we have come to expect back in the US, but doesn't feel quite as new and shiny as La Comer. This location is also an anchor store for what is a small strip mall with a few other stores and banks. Here too you'll take a 13-minute taxi ride from the condo to the grocery store, and when you leave there will be plenty of taxi's outside waiting to take you back to the condo.

The Nuevo Vallarta Riviera Farmer's Market is located in the parking lot behind the Centro Empresarial "Business Center" just a little over a mile south on along Paseo de los Cocoteros (out the property gate and to the right). A very short cab ride, it is within walking distance for many, although if you buy much you might need a cab to return. Operating only on Tuesdays between 9 am and 2 pm and only during the months of November through April (winter/early spring), this is a can't miss destination. We cover many of the other things the Farmers Market has to offer under other headings, but here we are focused on food and more specifically grocery type items. In addition to freshly cooked offerings, there are booths with dried fruits, fresh produce, baked goods, spices, and fresh seafood. For the seafood you need to arrive early as it typically sells out quickly. The Riviera Farmer's Market website has an English language option...and there is also a Facebook page that is kept more current than either website.

If you're already a user of the Uber Eats service you'll understand how this works, and there is no need for a new account or app...your existing account will work in Nuevo just like it does wherever you normally use it. Uber Eats is an app based service (you can use it via webpage as well) that allows you to place an order at a variety of different restaurants that will be picked up and delivered to you by Uber Eats for an additional fee. We've used this service for restaurant delivery to our condo, and it worked well...but can take some time to receive delivery.
